Karim is an experienced indirect tax advisor with a strong focus on VAT. Karim has domestic and multinational VAT experience with clients across a wide range of business lines, including Transport & Logistics, Shipping & Offshore, Non-Profit and Financial Services. She has a broad experience with optimizing (global) indirect tax positions and mitigating tax risks of her clients. In addition, she assisted various clients with the structuring and set-up of VAT administrations and VAT compliance, especially for international clients entering the EU market.
Karim’s experience includes negotiation with the Dutch Tax Authorities and litigation. She conducted several litigation procedures regarding application of the reduced VAT rate and application of the VAT exemption for management services provided to investment funds.
Clients praise Karim for solving complex issues and her practical and hands-on advice. She is a trusted advisor for several clients.
Besides her regular VAT advisory services, Karim also has a broad experience in M&A, providing VAT support for national and international transactions, including preparation of (vendor) due diligence reports and assistance with VAT structuring.
Karim published several articles regarding VAT in leading journals and magazines. She also regularly speaks on VAT seminars. She lectured Indirect Tax to bachelor’s and master’s students at Erasmus University Rotterdam for seven years.
Karim started her career in 2008 at KPMG Meijburg & Co, where she worked for more than 16 years before joining VanLoman in January 2025. Karim is a member of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisors (NOB).
